The evolution of the Devil May Cry reboot has been striking.
I remember a couple years ago, when the first trailer premiered, the public outrage was staggering. Nothing about the new Dante in that trailer was familiar, and every fan of the series made sure the devs knew how pissed they were about it.
Fast forward to now, and my god, I and about a million other former haters are stoked about his game now. Its amazing how dropping 50 pounds of emo and gaining 100 pounds of cockiness can remind us fans that this guy in the black hair is supposed to be Dante.
Now we all know what this new Dante looks like in this reboot, but what about Vergil? Well, heres my take on it.
Now unlike my previous Vergil fanart, this one is strictly designed to fit into this new DMC aesthetic of Britty-streetpunk-Guy Ritchie-ness. Since Vergil is always portrayed as more conservatively dressed, I opted to keep him wearing more suede, leather and khaki, with a black turtleneck for extra classiness. Also keeping with the more toned down usage of characteristic colors (the red of Dante's clothes are very minor), I used Vergils distinct tealish-blue for the inset color of his calfskin-leather coat (almost an inversion of the colors used in the original Vergil's coat).
As for more minor features, I went in a different direction with his hair. Vergil has always come across as a professional, so I skipped away from the punkish spiked hair, and gave this version a closed-cropped Caesar-haircut. To me, it seemed more appropriate for the realistic setting this new DMC game is set to take place.
So yea, there it is, my official blessing for this new DMC game. So far, you proved me wrong Ninja Theory, and I'm glad you did. Now we'll have to see if your game holds up to playtests.....
